What is a Mandelbox?

A Mandelbox is a fractal object, named after the Mandelbrot fractal. Unlike the Mandelbrot, the Mandelbox is less "organic" looking and has more "architectural features". A few pictures of the 3D view inside the Mandelbox are shown below.

Why a 2D Mandelbox Explorer?

Rendering 3D views of the Mandelbox (like in the pictures above) is computationally expensive and I have yet to be able to finish a 3D renderer that can be controlled in real-time at a sufficiently high frame rate. Instead, this project focuses on rendering a 2D slice of the Mandelbox quickly. Each frame is an X-Y slice of the Mandelbox - By iterating over the Z coordinates (or other parameters), animation can be achieved. Furthermore, since it is a 2D slice, the animation can be controlled in real-time.

The explorer can be accessed here . Warning! - It uses the GPU to render graphics - If you have a low-end GPU it will not render as smoothly.
